nesting, and the start of the Easter egg challenge

Post image for nesting, and the start of the Easter egg challenge

These little chocolate treats are irresistible to adults and children alike. They take about 10 minutes to make and are absolutely idiot-proof. What’s not to like? Make some now or enlist someone else to make some for you.

Chocolate Krispie Cakes, adapted from Nigel Slater’s Real Food

50g butter
4 tablespoons golden syrup
100g good quality plain chocolate
75g Rice Krispies
about 30 Mini Eggs or other small egg-shaped sweets

Gently melt the butter, syrup and chocolate in a small pan. Stir in the Rice Krispies until everything is combined, then put tablespoonfuls into paper cake cases, make an indent in the top of each one so it has a vague ‘nest’ shape, and put a couple of chocolate eggs in. Put in a cool place to set. Scoff.

Makes about 15.

Today I also embarked on my Easter egg challenge (read the comments on this post for the background). Plastic moulds? Check. Pastry brush? Check. Copious quantities of chocolate? Check. Assorted flavourings and adornments? Check and check. Game on.
